Lakeshore
Century – September 9, 2007
Looking only slightly tired, Gary Gianetti
(shown in the photo pausing only briefly to pose for a
picture) successfully completed the 2007 Lakeshore Century
accompanied by some local riders pacing themselves at 20+
miles per hour. The Lakeshore Century was Gary’s 23rd
century in 23 days. Congratulations and best wishes Gary from the
members of the Calumet Crank Club as you cycle through America
over the next 27 days following his Lakeshore Century ride. With
him are Joann and Joe Tomasic, Club members and two of the many
volunteers who did everything from logistics, manning SAG stops,
and working in the kitchen.

The Lakeshore Century picturesque, one-day ride held the Sunday after
Labor Day is the major fundraiser for our club. This ride is famous
for its good food, friendly volunteers, and great routes of 25 -
100 miles. Cruise the flat to rolling terrain along
the rural roads of Northwest Indiana, Michigan, and along the Indiana
Dunes National Lakeshore. Feast on food and beverages
at all sag stops and enjoy our traditional chili meal after the
ride.

VALPARAISO TO THREE OAKS, MICHIGAN
What a perfect day for an 85.6 mile ride to
beautiful Three Oaks, Michigan. If you're tough enough to do the
Lakeshore Century Sept. 9, you'll be able to witness first hand some
of the natural scenic beauty of this area along with the artistic
sites as captured in our photo. The bike route to this quaint town is
not only scenic but offers a great mix of biking terrain. (You might
even see a dinosaur!) There are hills but nothing anyone considering
this distance couldn't handle. As usual, there are great places to
replenish all of those calories you will burn getting there. If 85
miles does not interest you, the ride can be shortened considerably by
starting out in LaPorte. Check out our riding schedule and consider a
road trip with the Calumet Crank Club!
The Calumet Crank Club
members do their part to keep Indiana roads clean. Our "trash
bash" and ride was held April 21.
