Porter EMT Bike Medics Tom Felton and Mike
Eckhardt receive two new bikes from the Club. Lakeshore Century Chair Person
Bobbie Cyzyk and Club President Mary Spruitenburg make the presentation
along with bike medic bags for the EMT's medical equipment. The presentation
was made at the March 3 meeting. Money to purchase the bikes came from the
2007 Lakeshore Century event.
A big thank you to all those who
helped make the 2007 Lakeshore Century a big success:
Although Mother Nature
does play a big role (what spectacular weather we had, the success of this
ride truly hinges on the continued support of the committed members of the
Calumet Crank Club and the bicyclists (some 410 in 2007) who
return year after year from distances near and far to enjoy food,
fellowship, and some pretty spectacular views of Lake Michigan and Northwest
Indiana. Thanks for supporting bicycling and the Calumet Crank Club.
A
special thanks to Bobbie and Len Cyzyk for the countless hours they devote
to making this event happen. Click here for a picture
with the Tomasics of Gary Gianetti who chose our ride for the Indiana
leg of his 50 state tour!

About The Club
The Calumet Crank Club was established in 1981. The
majority of our members live in the cities and towns across Northwest
Indiana. Our routes cover scenic and varied terrain along Lake Michigan, as
well as the picturesque farmland and rural communities in our area.
Rides are held every day of the week and take place rain or shine. Want to
know how many calories you burn on a ride?
Check out this calculator here.
All cyclists are cordially invited to participate in our
rides. Simply show up with a bike in safe operating condition, sign a
waiver, and wear a helmet on the ride. We hope you’ll enjoy yourself enough
to become a member of the Club. Bring a water bottle (two in Summer). You
should also consider packing snacks or energy bars and bringing money to
purchase what you need from a convenience store or fast food restaurant
along the route.

Be adequately prepared to fix a flat (spare tube,
pump, patch kit, tire levers, and know-how). While the Calumet
Crank Club cannot assume responsibility for riders or their equipment,
Ride Leaders will assist riders in any way they can.
We encourage people to ride at their own paces; our rides
are not races. Starting times and starting points are listed in the
schedule. Please check our newsletter or website at the beginning of each
month for updates. There is no fee unless noted in the schedule. Please

Whether you ride at a casual pace or want a serious workout,
we have a ride for you. Our routes are designed for cyclists of all ages,
individuals, and groups. Guests are welcome to attend any ride. Come along
and see how much fun bicycling can be!
The vision of the Calumet Crank Club is to promote cycling
as a leisure activity, a sport, and a method of transportation through
organized rides, education, and volunteerism. To that end:
-
Our rides are open to the public, and are at no charge
unless otherwise specified.
-
We advocate cycling through participation in local and
state organizations and through our Speakers Bureau.
-
We have raised more than $400,000 for local charities and
participate in the Adopt-A-Highway program.
